Yes. We list 16 providers in Lackawanna County that offer cremation, based on the source classification or the business name. Many funeral homes arrange cremation through a crematory they work with even when cremation is not in their name, so it is worth asking any funeral home directly.

In most cases the funeral home files the death certificate and can order certified copies for the family. Copies can also be ordered later from the Pennsylvania vital records office, and in many states from the county health department or clerk. Banks, insurers and government agencies usually ask for a certified copy, so families often order several.

Under the Federal Trade Commission's Funeral Rule, a funeral home must give you an itemized General Price List when you ask about arrangements in person, and must answer questions about prices over the phone. You may choose only the goods and services you want, apart from a basic services fee and anything required by law, and you may buy a casket or urn elsewhere without paying a handling fee. Asking two or three funeral homes for their price lists is the most reliable way to compare.
